Media company Chrysalis Group is considering the sale of its radio and music business as part of a full strategic review into the division's future, pushing its shares up more than 4 percent on Monday.
"The valuable market positions we have created at Chrysalis Radio, coupled with the ongoing consolidation in UK radio, suggest that now is an appropriate time to consider a formal review of our strategic options in this area," Chrysalis Chief Executive Richard Huntingford said in a statement.
He said the review will be wide-ranging and will assess all options that can deliver maximum value to Chrysalis shareholders, including a potential demerger of the radio and music businesses.
Country singer Keith Urban has filed a lawsuit against a painter of the same name, Keith Urban. The former Urban claims that the lesser known Urban's web-site infringes U.S. cyber-squatting and trademark laws. Singer Urban, also famed as the husband of Nicole Kidman, filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday.
Nicole Kidman's husband owns the current web-site address www.keithurban.net. The New Jersey painter uses www.keithurban.com to advertise oil paintings for sale. The Urban (singer) wants this web-site domain name transferred to his ownership because he alleges that its use by the Urban (painter) is being used "in a manner likely to deceive the public into believing that the website has a connection to Plaintiff that does not exist."
MySpace is now entering the movie business. Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, Inc., owner of Myspace, has partnered with Vertigo Films and Film4, two UK production companies, to launch MyMovie MashUp, a £1 million ($2m USD) feature film project that will draw on the creativity of MySpace users. Yeah, that's you and me.
MySpace users will be invited to contribute to the script, audition for roles in the film, and participate in the general development, casting and marketing decisions. The film's projected release is the summer of 2008.
As a legally trained mind, my questions are (of course), do Myspace users have any intellectual property interest in the unique creative content of their Myspace? If so, if the content of your Myspace inspires some significant aspect of the film's production, is your consent required? That's where that nice little Myspace Users Agreement that everyone accepts/clicks and no one reads when registering comes into play. Yes, that was a contract, but more like a waiver of rights.
Who needs Hollywood anyway with this type of pool of creative talent.
